Army Family ServicesBldg 2140, Waller Hall (253) 967-7166 Mon - Fri 0800-1630 Army Emergency Relief assistance provides emergency financial assistance for rent, food, utilities, emergency travel expenses, medical and dental expenses, emergency car repairs and educational assistance. After-hours assistance for emergency travel is available by calling the American Red Cross toll-free at 1-877-272-7337. Army Family Team Building is a training initiative for the Total Army Family. AFTB educates the community and family members to build self-reliant, self-sufficient families that will enhance family preparedness in the Army of the future. The Financial Readiness Program helps Soldiers and family members get the most for their money. They provide consumer information, financial counseling and budget assistance. Information is also available on insurance, investments and consumer advocacy. The Consumer Credit Counseling Service is accessed through this office. Unit classes are available. The Employment Readiness Program offers individual assistance in resume preparation and computers for client use. They provide centralized job listings and a Civilian Personnel Advisory Center and Non-appropriated Fund job application drop box. Active duty personnel are assisted on a space-available basis. Family Services provides Soldiers and families information and assistance for crisis counseling, foster care, adoptions, non-support issues, food stamp referrals, food resources, emergency food assistance, baby layettes, community education, family care plans, waiting families support group and advocacy for exceptional family members. The Loan Closet offers 30-day loans of kitchenware, baby cribs, futons and other household items. The service is available to all ID card holders. A copy of orders is required for active duty users who are retiring or in a PCS or ETS status. Relocation Readiness helps in all aspects of relocation. Worldwide welcome packets and videos are available from selected posts. A Standard Installation Topic Exchange Service printout is available within minutes upon request for all DoD worldwide installations. Relocation counseling for Soldiers and family members, a Family In-processing Disk and Immigration/Naturalization Services are available. A monthly Newcomers' Orientation is offered at the American Lake Community Center on the last Tuesday of every month. Free childcare is provided. Call (253) 967-3628 for more information. Bicultural Services offers assistance to foreign-born spouses by providing immigration/naturalization services. Classes for citizenship and English as a Second Language are available. |
